Disappointed. =(, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Pioneer TS-D1720C 6.75-Inch D-Series 280-Watt Speaker Package (Electronics) I use only Pioneer audio products in my car, so I'm somewhat bias, but I am not happy with these speakers. Note this is my first experience with component speakers. The previous speakers I used are the D-Series Pioneers and they were very great. But the tweeters on these components are too loud. I have them hooked up to the -3db line on the crossover and I've adjusted the higher frequency settings on my equalizer but the sound is still displeasing.If you are someone that listens to softer music or music primarily with deep bass and no highs then the sound is wonderful. I have no problems listening to most of my techno/Dubstep. However, when I play my heavy metal, I do so loudly. Unfortunately, the higher pitches from the electric guitars and cymbals are still too high even after equalizer adjustments. I suspect the causes are due to the fact that I have my tweeters in the door frames near the handle. This puts it closer to the driver than the factor speaker... These sound much better than the stock speakers. It is a pain to find a good place to mount the xover, but well worth the effort. I put baffles behind the speakers to protect them, and improve the sound. I had to cut the center out of my stock tweeters to mount the new ones in, but that was no problem really. Until I pick up a new amp they are powered directly off of my Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD head unit, and they still sound great. My only complaint would be that Pioneer changed from metal to plastic mounting ears, and during the install one of them split while screwing it in to the door. It still holds, but I don't like that it happened. If it wasn't for this I would have rated them five stars. Come installation time, I find that these speakers are about 1/4" too deep and hit my window when it is rolled down. With a little fabrication, I should be able to get them to fit, but be sure to check dimensions and make sure they will fit your vehicle. I have not been able to see how these sound as of yet and will edit this post when I have finished the install.Edit: Install finished, had to cut the door panel and mount to the face of the panel, instead of where the stock speakers were. I used a dremel to cut the panel and grind away some of the molding, speakers do sound good however, so i will change from a 1 to a 2 star rating. |
