The high wattage rating makes it powerful enough even with your bass control turned all the way down! It has great punch combined with crisp, clean lows all delivered with ease. I have a 250 watt amp powering it which is plenty for this sub. However, it's so powerful, I have the connections set to feed it only 125 watts of power which seems to be more ideal for my car. I have it in my 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser so being a hatchback, the sub appears much louder at a lower volume as compared to a sedan or coupe with the trunk separated from the rest of the car. This Pioneer sub is a fantastic buy for only $50 as it will blend in perfectly with any speaker brand. However, you may want to consider upgrading the rest of your car's speakers and seeing how they sound alone before buying this as this baby will blow away stock speakers no problem. I got this for the wife along with an R/T labrynth ported box and even though we haven't been able to realy open it up yet it hits very loud and true! I cannot wait to hear it after about 40 days of berak in but I am sure it will pound as good as my matching 12". I do have to say though that if you are going to get this sub or 1 like it make sure you get the right sized box, amp and wiring for everything. Yes it all makes a difference. We are running with a Pioneer 360 watt RMS amp, hence the need for the single 4 ohm voice coil. Had to rewire the amp with 4 guage becuase the 8 guage wire just didn't cut the mustard. The difference in the wiring was night and day, louder cleaner and more commanding than before. All of this if bought the right way can be had for less than $200 if you buy everything on sale and it makes for one heck of a loud system.
